Bob Notes…

When we are kids and youth growing up, we may or may not have some idea of what we
“want to do when we grow up.” Well, one of my high school buddies played the viola in our high school orchestra. Like me, God called him into ministry. He is not a pastor, but he works with a ministry down near Indianapolis. A few years ago he wrote a poem entitled, “For Children Like Me.” share it in this space this month because I believe it captures the spirit of this season. Enjoy!

Love in Christ, Pastor Bob

For Children Like Me

There are presents under the tree,

What’s inside the boxes? Mystery!

Excitement flashes like the lights, as,

Bright eyed, we wait for the surprises.

What gift will you open this year?

What’s on your wish list? Can I hear?

Maybe some new clothes, or new toys?

Christmas is for little girls and boys.

But in a world of disease and wars,

Hatred, child abuse, drugs and divorce,

Christmas is for children just like me,

Who still need to hope, love and believe.

She unwrapped her package slowly,

So fragile, sweet, and so tiny,

The best gift in the world, and then she

Offered her gift to you and me.

It was the very first Christmas the world had.

As promised,. Her gift would make her sad,

Unwrap The Gift, and then you will see,

Bitter and sweet mixed, God’s mystery.

Christmas is for children like you and me.
